Reg had his real
break when he went to join Carroll Gibbons and the Savoy Orpheans. This
experience was to shape his whole future in music.
The musicians were
all top calibre and Reg played alongside Eugene Pini and George Melachrino
and the Fenoulhet brothers.
The band is pictured
in 1935 and nearly all the members of the band went on to successful
careers, some of them household names.
The Palm Court
Orchestra was here to stay and the Savoy Hotel was among the leaders in
providing this form of entertainment.
Reg went on to join
the Fred Hartley Sextet with Hugo Rignold, then as leader of the Queen's
Hall Light Orchestra followed by leader of The London Studio Strings
and with 3 radio programmes including 18 years of Grand Hotel, he found
time to form the Reginald Leopold Orchestra and the Reginald Leopold Palm
Court Trio with Robert Docker (piano) and Edward Holmes (cello).
Reg also featured as
solo violinist with many ensembles. |
